Training Band

We have our own training band, run by Helen Walters.

Members of the local area are encouraged to come along and learn to play a brass instrument, totally free of charge.

All we ask is that the instrument lent is treated with respect, and that you practice.

The instrument, lessons and uniform are provided free of charge.

Players start in the beginner band, then progress into the intermediate band, then hopefully through into the senior band.

Beginners lessons are held on Friday evening prior to the start of Intermediate band rehearsal.

Beginner band rehearsals are held on a Sunday evening at 17:00 – 17:30.

Intermediate band rehearsals are held on Friday evening 19:20 – 20:30 and Sunday evening 17:40 – 18:40.

We always welcome newcomers – click here to find out how to get involved!

The training band has been supporting the senior band for over 15 years, and through this time has seen many players progress through into the senior band and further. Several players have progressed from Tewkesbury Town Band training system and on into music conservatoires and Championship Section brass bands.

A training band concert in a local church in 2021 – socially distanced of course

To comply with the Children (Performance and Activities) Regulations 2014 the band holds a Body of persons approval from Gloucestershire County Council, and also with Brass Bands England. We have two Gloucestershire County Council licensed chaperones and Bandsafe trained personnel, and all tutors hold an enhanced certificate through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
